Handicap Letter

     All right all you sandbaggers here's the straight scoop from the handicap chairman and committee

2010 handicap committee letter


With the 2009 tournament season completed and the 2010 season of Harbour Pointe tournaments commencing on January 9th , I would like to remind everyone of the handicapping index system we use for our tournaments. During 2009 we undertook refining and equalizing the handicapping system for our tournaments. We successfully recorded and calculated all posted tournament scores using the equitable stroke control formula. For every 2009 Harbour Pointe Men’s club sanctioned tournament, your index was calculated from the six lowest posted tournament scores or their USGA index, which ever was lower. Using a full year of recorded scores, we will calculate indexes in 2010 in basically the same way with one exception; only the six lowest posted Harbour Pointe tournament scores will be calculated. We believe that by using only our course scores will we be able to quantify scores on an equal basis. This process will be ongoing throughout the 2010 tournament schedule, which means that your indexes will change as scores are recorded. The pro-shop will maintain a copy of the handicap indexes for your review.

Remember that the scores recorded on the score cards to determine tournament winners can be different from the scores posted for indexes. All posted scores will again use the following system:

Equitable Stroke Control

Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) puts a cap on individual hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make your handicap more representative of your ability. ESC puts a limit on how many strokes you can take on a hole depending on your Course Handicap. ESC is applied to all scores, including tournament scores. Below is the maximum number of strokes allowed per hole, based on Course Handicap:

Ok guys here's our next tournament, Sat.. the 23rd of Jan at 10am shot gun start. It's the DIEHARD OPEN
9-hole scramble,9-hole chapman. Lets get out there and support this event!!!!!!! In connection with 2 man competition, not this one particularly, I want to refresh your memory as to posting your per hole score on the score card. If you pick up on a hole, you still need to post on the card, the score you would have most likely to have made if you had finished the hole. This is important in tournament play so the handicap committee can correctly enter your final tournament score, to obtain a more accurate tournament handicap. We are trying very hard to getting everybody playing on a even playing field.

News From The Board

  Last nite ( Jan 11 ) we held our first board meeting of the year.We elected the new officers for the year. Scott Weaver, President, Don Rashell, Vice President, Secretary, Steve Moreno,Treasure, Mark McCalmon, Handicap Chairman , Walker Martin, along with Wally Nagel,Ray Edwards, Tournament Chairman long with Dan McNeely and Bob Medin as our at large rep.A copy of the minutes will be posted later this week. We covered a wide variety of items, tournament handicap, news letter, possible new tournaments, the blog,( our new informational venue )and new membership.In the coming days and weeks, we'll explore each of these items in depth. We'd like everybody in the club to make an effort to bring in a new member which will help to build tournament participation and enhance tournament pay outs.
   This year we'll again be using Ezlinks for posting scores. We want you all to know that a handicap established through EZlink is as good as Ghinn, they have the same value. Your EZlink index will get you into all USGA events, with just a couple exceptions. If you want to play in any WSGA events then you have to $25 to the WSGA to join them and post scores on their web site. WE'll be working very hard with WSGA to get a computer set up at Harbour Pointe so you can post scores there.

Welcome to the New Year

    OK Guys, the word's out and the Emails about the new Men's Club Blog has been sent out, here's hoping everybody has received the news. For those of you who don't want to read all the entries, this blog will keep you all up to date as to what's going on at the club. There are some links in the upper left corner to Ghin and Ezlink, for posting scores, just click on the link. There's also links to the Men's Club web site and Harbour Pointe web site.We'll be up dating this blog at least once, if not more, a week. We'll try to give you tournament day info (i.e. weather delays for shotgun starts ),check this site before leaving home if you're wondering if we're on time. We'll be posting results from tournaments played the past week and I'll be in touch with the golf shop for any info that needs to get out to the club, so check this blog on a regular bases.
