MERRY CHRISTMAS

Morning guys, and a Merry Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year. Well it's  the end of another year at Harbour and hopefully a new and improved year coming . I'd personally like to thank all the members who stuck it out this year for supporting the men's club. It  was a bit trying with new management, tournament handicap and new playing rules. Thanks for the turn out on all the Majors this year, much improved over last year. The new board members are in place now and the board is rampping up its new renewal and new member sign up folders along with maybe some new playing rules and other changes to make the coming year more inviting and fun to play at Harbour Pointe. I know we're all comfortable with who we play golf with but would like to challenge all of you to invite someone you to know or don't know to become a member at Harbour, which in turn would double our membership. In the coming year if there's something you'd like me to write in this blog or keep track of please e-mail me at Drashell@msn.com and let me know. As you probably have already read in Caleb's email  the last tourney of the year is on Monday new years eve, this is the last chance to improve your money list placement (ie top fifty ) so if you're not working , get out and play.          As Always    Big D
                                                  Merry Christmas

FYI and Elections

Well then, since only three mens club members stepped up to be elected to the board for the coming year, they will be by default the next three new board members for the coming year. They are as follows Oliver Oshiro, Walker Martin and yours truly  Don Rashell. It would have been really great to have others nominated so we could have had a vote of the club members.
The last major is about upon us, The Holiday Classic, Dec. 1 & 2. Don't miss out on the last big chance to make some year end money,to spend some Xmas spirit with other club members, and to spend your book money before years end. This is two day tourney, two man best ball, combine, and chapman. this will be a 10:00 Shotgun with honey pots and special event. Please sign Asap so we'll have a easier time to fill the needs of the tournament.    Thanks   Big D

NEED TO READ

Morning guys, a couple things coming up in the next two weeks. First is the next Sat tourney, on Oct 6th, the Fall Pot game ( tee Times ). This will be a different format. For you members who want to play from the white tees but don't want to give up strokes, this is your chance to play. This tourney will have two division only, member tees and white tees,( if you're 60ty and older ). You won't have to give up any strokes to play from the whites. Each division pay out will be based on the % of total players in tournament. Both divisions will play the same tees on the par threes for Kp and deuce pots. Skins will be determine with in each division.
If this format works out and we hear good things from the players, then this might be the play for next years schedule.
Second, this tournament  is very important to play in, because it's the last  tourney for Rhodes Cup qualifying points. We'll  be making calls to all qualifiers on Monday after the tournament. So if your on the Bubble, you still have a chance to qualify. Current standings are posted above the handicap computer at HP.   Thanks Big D

PS Caleb will be sending out an e-mail on the up coming Winter - Agge, so be looking for the posting.

Important Board Decision

Hey guys, this might be redundant, but it's very important that all members get this message. Our president of the board has sent out an e-mail blast to all current members about the change in Qualifying requirements for the Member-Member. Here is a copy of that e-mail.
RE: Participation Requirement WAIVED for 2012 Member-Member

Dear HPMC Member,

A few years ago, the HPMC Board adopted a rule requiring participation in other HPMC events in order to qualify to play in our 4 Majors. The idea was to prevent outside participants who did not generally support our tournaments from swooping in and winning our crystal. It was a time when our membership was much larger and we wanted to make sure that regular players could secure a spot in the full fields.

After much consideration, the Board has decided to waive the Participation Requirement for the 2012 Member-Member. After all of the challenges and changes of the past few years, we are on the verge of having one of the best Member-Members in recent memory. We have decided that the prospect of a full and raucous field outweighs other considerations at this time, and we would like to encourage ALL-COMERS to play. The only requirement is that your 2012 Annual Membership Fee has been paid.

I want to personally apologize to anyone who felt that the original rule was unfriendly or unwelcoming. Hopefully this explanation makes it clear that our only motivation is to protect and improve our events.

We are shooting for a full field! Make sure to sign up early (June 20)!

Best Regards,

Scott

Member-Member Entry Fee

Good Sunday Morning, just a short note today on Member -Member entry fee. Those of you who own your own company can use sponsorship as a way of paying your entry into the Member-Member. The cost would be $340, for which you would get a spot on the sponsors board out on the patio,a spot in the sponsors page in the member-member information booklet and if you have a small sign, you can pick a tee block to have it placed on. You can write this off as advertisement. Those of you who don't own a company, the same goes for anybody you obtain as a sponsor. This can help you pay for your entry fee and help supplement the tournament prize fund.
On another note, those of you who have read the qualifying E-mail that went out last week, if you're in doubt as to weather you qualify or not, send me an E-mail ( drashell@msn.com ) and I let you know. We want everybody to play in this Tournament so don't be shy about asking.  Thanks Big D

Are You Posting?????

Ok guys, we're playing Wed nites again, so it's time to make sure that you're posting your Wed nite scores. this is especially true if you are winning any kind of money on Wed nite play. Failure to do so with 48 hrs. of play, could cost you the money you might have won on that Wed nite. Sooooooooo you are fore warned, there will be board members, checking from time to time to see if we're posting.
Next ,we're a little more than a month away from the MEMBER-MEMBER, June 30 and July 1. Lets be finding a partner and get signed up for what should be the best Member-Member in the last few years.  For those of you who purchased the Club Card, you can use it for your entry fee. Check with Golf Shop for all the particulars. There will be several copies of the official tournament information packets floating around golf shop to give you an ideal of all the activities that will be going on, that weekend. So check it out and get fired up. It's also important to know that you can have any partner, but partners may only use a 12 stroke or less, spread between the two players. Example, Player A, has a 8 handicap and Player B has a 22 handicap, the  difference is 14 strokes, the team can only use 12 of those strokes. Don't let this Spook you out of playing in the tournament, your team will be more competitive than you think. We're playing in flights of six teams, with 9 hole matches, 2 man best ball.     Big D

Players follow up

Just wanted to follow up on a couple things I forgot to mention on the last  posting. First, to show it really does pay to play in majors, about $6000 was earned on the books or paid out in cash to players in this past Players championship, way to go guys. Second, everybody who played received $30. on the books for a tee prize, another reason to have played . Third, at least 150 Rhodes Cup Points were earned by everybody who played. The next tournament, Spring Field Day, you can earn double Rhodes Cup Points!!!!!!!! So plan on playing May 5th. Last, I'd like to thank the whole Harbour Pointe Management and staff for all their hard work and great job they did to put this tournament on.  Thanks Big  D

Players Championship

Wow guys, what a great weekend for the "Players"  Championship. Kudos to all of you who came out to play. This is how we make our major tournaments a huge success with your participation.
With this past weekend still in mind, it's time to start thinking about our next major, which is the Member- Member ( June 30th and July 1). This will be a two Man Best ball match play, with 5 nine hole matches with in your own division. We only have room for 60 teams , so be sure to start planing for this tournament. Congrats. to Lance Kilbride the gross winner and Oscar Spurlin the net winner. Enjoy your crystal. Also congratulations to all of you guys, that won some cash. Over half the field cashed in one way or another.
The next weekend tournament will be the Spring Field Day on May 5th ( tee times). This will also be worth double Rhodes Cup Points, so get out and play. I should have the first Rhodes Cup Points list out in a couple of Days.         Thanks, Big D

What's Been Happening FYI

Congrats to all you mudders for playing yesterday ( Wed nite Men,s ) about 35 of us. It was pretty nasty. Thanks again to all of you for supporting the 50/50 pot, it's growing each week and it will be great to pay for someones bar bill when they get that hole in one. This weeks total was $95.00, for which $47.00 went to yours truly for the first time. The drawing was done by Aaron Horner.
The first Major of the year is a week away, the 21st and 22nd, it's the Players Championship, Caleb has sent out E-mails to all of you about getting signed up by 18th of April. I'll put those E-mails in this posting, please take heed and get signed up. ( Tee times on Saturday and Shotgun on Sunday). There'll be two division, top fifty money winner from last year and then the rest of the field. Guys I want you to know that 60% of your membership fees goes toward funding the four majors during the year.Your best chance of winning money on the books is by playing in these tournaments. The tourneys will all be flighted, so the more that play, the more flights we'll have and the better chance of cashing.A caveat to that is, the more tournaments you  play in, the more truer your tournament handicap will be.
Congratulations to the Top 50 Money List winners from 2011. You will find the 2011 Top 50 Money List attached. If your name is on this list; Great Job!; you have qualified to play in the Top 50 division in the Players Championship. For those of you that had a less than stellar year, you will be in the non Top 50 division.

We are less than 2 weeks away from the 1st Major of the year. Please complete the attached entry form and return to the golf shop with payment by Wednesday, April 18th to guarantee your spot in the years Players Championship.
Saturday will be tee times starting at 7am - Once your registration is complete you can sign up for a tee time
Sunday will be an 8am SG start - Pairings will be based on Top 50 and non Top 50 1st round scores
Please email or call me if you have any questions.

Opening Wed. Nite

Well guys Opening  Wed Nite turned out to be fairly successful albeit a little subdued in the turn out for play. The weather was clear and sunny, but still cool. The competition was flighted ,so more players had a chance to win some book money. The 50/50 pot  had two winners ,( $41.00 ea ), Z Zombar and James Latter, the restaurant put together a great prime Rib dinner. The Board was there in force to help out new and old members to renew their membership and to give out new membership packets and bag tags. The tags will be used for  possible drinks discounts in the near future.A survey was taken for the purpose of finding out what days were better for the Member-Member in June, Friday/ Saturday or Saturday/ Sunday. Those play dates would be June 29th & 30th or June 30th & July 1 respectively. If you have any feelings on this matter and did not play or take the survey, please call the golf shop and let them know what you think. Lastly, if you plan on playing Wed nites, please make your tee times by Monday of the week you plan on playing or risk the chance of having the tee times filled by the general public. Mens Club tee times will only be held until Monday each week.     Big D

ProAm Draft

The Harbour Pointe Professional team would like to formally invite the Harbour Pointe Men’s Club to the 1st annual Pro Am draft night. The draft will occur on Wednesday, March 14 @ 6pm.                                   This event is to offer our members the chance to play in the 2012 Western Washington Chapter PGA Pro Member Series sponsored by Cruise Specialists and Holland America Line.
These events feature 3 members with a professional playing some of the areas finest golf courses. The Pro Members start in March and go through October. Please visit www.wwcpga.com and go to the Pro Members page for more details on dates.
Here’s how the draft will work. Everyone present at draft night (must be a 2012 HPMC member) will draw a number. The person who gets the number one pick will have first choice at which event they play in. This will be a ladder draft so if there are 25 guys then the person who draws the 25th pick will get to pick the 25th and 26th spot, the person who draws the 24th spot will get the 24th and 27th pick…etc.
Feel free to sell or trade your draft pick as you see fit…it could get interesting. We will also be drawing for alternate spots in events in case anyone has to cancel.
A couple things to remember about the pro members                                                                                  1. All tournament entry fees will be paid to the professional and the professional will pay the Chapter for the entire team entry
a. Please bring cash or check to event and give to your professional…don’t make us ask for itJ
b. Carts are additional and have been reserved so make sure you tell your professional if you want to walk so we can cancel the cart reservation well in advance or everyone will pay for their share of the cart
c. Attire…many events are at private clubs but even if they aren’t, please wear appropriate golf attire and represent Harbour Pointe wellJ
d. If you are signed up for an event and can’t make it the golf professional will try and fill your spot. If the spot goes unfilled you will still be responsible for paying for the event because we pay the Chapter.
e. All winnings from these events will be paid to Harbour Pointe and added to your credit book accounts.    If you have any question about Draft Night feel free to email me. I look forward to seeing everyone there on the 14th.

Caleb Kraus, PGA

Handicap Posting

Here's the latest from the Handicap Chairman, Walker Martain
Posting Scores When Traveling to Sunbelt States During the Off-Season

Although local scores are not valid to your official handicap after December 1, you are under obligation per the USGA Handicap System, and your club to post rounds played in year-round golf associations if you travel throughout the winter. This is crucial to maintaining accurate handicaps and promoting fair play. To do our part, E-Z Links will provide off-season updates to your Handicap Indexes on January 1 and February 1 (and also on the 15th of each month beginning in 2012).
Many associations are members of the IGN (INTERNATIONAL GOLF NETWORK) which makes it easy to post where you play. Look for “Guest Score Posting”, when posting at an away course computer. If you are unable to post at your winter site, you may either bring your scorecards home for posting, or E-Z Links allows Internet Score Posting, set up an account on Okigolf.com to easily post your scores.
PLEASE HELP YOUR CLUB, AND YOUR HANDICAP COMITTEE KEEP HANDICAPS ACCURATE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR BY POSTING ALL LEGAL ROUNDS, NO MATTER WHERE YOU PLAY, AND ENCOURAGE YOUR PLAYING PARTNERS TO DO THE SAMStarting March 1, 2012 all scores must be posted as the official handicap season starts on that date.
All Harbour Pointe men’s club tournaments will be using updated indexes as of March 1.

Things You Should Know

First of all I'd like to welcome aboard our new GM, Caleb Kraus, as of about two weeks ago. He's been with Okis' Corp for about 12 years, with his last job being director of golf at Washington National. When you're in the pro shop, stop in and say hi. Next, its Mens' Club renewal time, so the next time you play in a club tournament or at the course get signed up. There will be a cut off day down the road, where you can't keep tournament money on the books if you have not renewed your membership. We've had three scheduled tourneys so far this year and your support for the 50/50 raffle has really been great so far, with $715.00 in the hole 'n one pot. We,re also sharing the love each time depending on the pot size for the day. Last tournament there were three winners for $40 ea. Jim MacDonald, Don Robinson,& Wally Nagel. Friday the 17th is the next tourney, 5 Man Par 3, 12:30 shot gun. It 'll be 1 gross and two net, with good weather predicted, lets get signed up.

FYI Please Read

Morning Boys, here's a few things you need to read about. First, this Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday, so accordingly there will be a Super Bowl Tournament with a 9:30 AM shot gun start. It will be a 2 man best ball using football points for score. The weather looks really good for Sunday, so come out and play and watch the game afterwards in the bar. Last weeks winner of half the 50/50 pot was Steve the Man Moreno. A foot note on the 50/50 pot, we're going to start sharing the love on the winner side, depending on how big the pot is each week. There could be one,two or three winners each tournament, so come aboard and buy your raffle tickets and share in the love. I'd like to remind all members, that we're holding a going away get together for John Crots, on Wed. Feb. 8th ,with a Spanky's draw tournament, 11:00 AM shot gun. Finally I'd like to encourage you guys to sign up for the Harbour Pointe Cup, which starts April 8th. This is match play, with set play dates. Call the shop or sign up the next time you're there.

Coming Tourneys

Welcome to a wintry weekend. Yesterday, was the final chapter in the winter Home and Home tourney with Echo,Redmond Ridge and Harbour, for bragging rights. The Pointe lost the battle but won the war so we keep the trophy for another season!!!!!!!!!! Congrats to all that helped to win. The next tournament on the schedule is the Die Hard open next Sat the 21st, a 10 am shotgun. It'll be a 2 man scramble for 9 holes and 9 hole Chapman. Hopefully all this coming winter weather will be gone by next weekend and we can have a great turn out. Also at the desk, there'll be a sign up sheet for the Harbour Pointe Cup, to start April 8th. This will be single lamination match play. It'll be broken down into four brackets or handicap divisions. Play will be on designated play date either Sat. or Sun. (  April 8th at 8 am, Apr. 29th 8 am, May 20th 7:30am,June 10th 7:30am, and the final on JUNE 24TH any tee time.) Play will be off the lower of the two handicaps for that match.Players may decide which tees to play If there's a dispute than whites will prevail. Byes will be issued based on sign up order. If one player in the match can't play on the play date, then he shall forfeit the match. If both players can't play on the play date than a coin flip will decide the winner of the match. Let's make this a full field tourney ( 64 players ), by signing up at the Pro Shop in person or calling the Shop to get signed up. I'll be sending reminders from time to time.

Happy New Year

Good morning and Happy New Year to one and all. Hope you're all feeling some what well after last nights merriment. I'd like to wish you all much success in the coming year in all your future endeavors, specially in your golf  accomplishments. This year, as in past years, will be full of opportunities to play and to put cash on the books. The catch here is to play so you can reach those goals of a major winner,Rhodes Cup Player, or the top 50 money winner. With respects to that goal, our first tournament of the year will be Sat.the 7th, a 10:00 AM shotgun. The play is 2 BEST BALLS OF THE 5 SOME. Right now the weather for next Sat. looks OK,so lets start the year off with a great turn out. The 50/50 pot will be in effect, so tee it up and hope somebody gets a hole in one. Congrats to Paul Richter who was the winner of half the pot for the Mystery Ball tourney.
On another note, I hope you've had a chance to read the current News Letter just sent out this past week.Ron Monaco is the new editor of the news letter and he's done a really excellent job with this edition. Great job Ron (aka cheesecake).
On a personal note, I hope this year to make Club news at HarbourPointe, more interesting and more accessible so you can stay as current as you can on what's happening at the course and coming events. Thanks for your support and suggestion this past year   Big D
